So it’s August. Already. Somehow. And as we near the final month of summer festivals leeching major names, there’s a little more than just local acts to sink your teeth into again. I hereby present The Pit’s top 5 gigs to check out, week by week. Oceans at Broadcast / Saturday 6thPreviously known as Enemies Of The State, the newly named Oceans launch their debut EP in what is quite possibly the darkest venue in Glasgow. Though not quite as prestigious as some of its next-door neighbours, Broadcast is an interesting wee space and well suited for this lot’s new alt rock stylings. Check out the EP for yourself here and then pick up a ticket. We Are Carnivores at the Old Hairdressers / Wednesday 10thMath rock from down south brought over the border for a night of what I thoroughly expect to be complete mayhem. Think Enter Shikari playing a show up your nan’s loft. Support comes in the form of fellow Englismen Tirade who are exactly as pop-punk as they look, and quite a bit of fun too if that’s your thing. Check out their latest EP right here and grab a ticket.
The Bronx/Mariachi El Bronx at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut / Thursday 18th & Friday 19thAlright this is technically two shows, but what do you care? Hardcore punks by day and marciachi band by night, The Bronx play King Tut’s under their alter ego on the 18th and then again as themselves on the 19th as part of the Rock n Roll Damnation Festival. It’s an odd setup, but it sort of works? Pick up a ticket for the Mariachi set here and cross your fingers for resales.
Biffy Clyro at Bellahouston Park / Saturday 27thYou don’t need me to tell you who Biffy Clyro are. Jetting up between their Reading & Leeds Fest headline slots the (let’s face it) pop-rock giants play Glasgow as part of the annual Summer Sessions, bringing Fall Out Boy, Wolf Alice and Cage The Elephant with them. Undoubtedly the most expensive show on this month’s list but for a line-up like that, it’s hard to argue. Mon the Biff! Check out Biffy’s new album here and if you’re made of money, grab a ticket.
Modern Baseball at The Mash House / Tuesday 31stHaving sold-out Stereo in a record few days at the start of the year, Modern Baseball are back at it again. August’s token Edinburgh show (sorry lads) sees the emo revivalists play another ridiculously small venue supported by Irish indie poppers The Winter Passing and Vicky Speedboat, a side-project of Baseball’s own vocalist Sean Huber. Stream their new album on Bandcamp here and then pick up a ticket. If there are any left that is. |
