COUNTER CULTURE: A DIY ZINE FOR PUNK MINORITIESOver the last few months we’ve been working on something extra special, and it’s finally time to introduce it to the world. Friends, Romans, countrymen, I hereby present to you COUNTER CULTURE: an independent, charity punk zine that’s so DIY I’m literally stapling them by hand. By which I mean there is no stapler involved at all. Please, my fingers - they bleed. Our first issue focuses on the excellent queer punk community of which I am a part, and though it’s been a little rocky recently, we want to emphasise the good. Every piece of art, writing and whatever else within its pages was made by LGBT folk for LGBT folk (and their allies - hey it’s a charity thing). It features an article on ‘shock punk’; an interview with cheery Edinburgh lot THE SPOOK SCHOOL; some album recommendations; and a review of THE HOTELIER’s recent Glasgow show. All proceeds go straight to LGBT Youth Scotland to aid in their mission to “empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people and the wider LGBT community so that they are embraced as full members of the Scottish family at home, school and in every community.” You can pick up a copy online or in person at a handful of record shops, as well as specialised zine hut Good Press if you’re a local. We’d love to talk more about this kind of thing! If you’ve got any suggestions, complaints, or want to get involved in the future either send us a message by ask or email at thepitglasgow@outlook.com. |
