OCTOBER GIG RECS: A SHOW PER WEEK(-ISH)Happy second of Halloween everyone. Time to get spooky to your favourite tunes. Don a cape, practice some socially acceptable cosplay, eat enough sweets to rot your teeth straight out your gums - just make sure you do it all at a show. Here’s our top picks for the month of October. (featuring PLACEBO, THE MOUNTAIN GOATS, MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA & DIET CIG) ![]() PLACEBO AT USHER HALL, 07.10.17Celebrating 20 years of androgynous glam rock (a la the late DAVID BOWIE), London three-piece PLACEBO have plans to bring their classic nasal stylings up north for not one, but two dates. More convenient for Glasgow readers, their show at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall is already sold out, but keep an eye. You never know what might pop up. Supported by Huskey Loops FFO: Interpol, Editors, Manic Street Preachers /_/ SOLD OUT ![]() THE MOUNTAIN GOATS AT ART SCHOOL, 09.10.17Are they jazz? Folk? An artisinal, introspective blend of the both? Who the hell cares - they’re bloody good, and they’re coming your way. Stripped down to a duo performance at the Art School, John Darnielle’s MOUNTAIN GOATS are sitting on an AOTY contender which needs hearing live. Get em while they’re hot. Supported by Skylar Gudasz FFO: They Might Be Giants, AJJ, The Hold Steady /_/ Tickets ![]() DIET CIG AT BROADCAST, 18.10.17Very technically (by which I mean exactly) this gig is the same week as the last entry on the list, but I just couldn’t leave it out. New York indie-poppers DIET CIG are set to play the basement at Broadcast alongside our very favourite east coast q*eer punks, THE SPOOK SCHOOL. It’s a bangin two-for-one deal in our, humble, opinion. Supported by The Spook School FFO: Adult Mom, Charly Bliss, Vagabon /_/ Tickets ![]() MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA AT THE GARAGE, 22.10.17Closing with another sold out show feels cruel. If you read our review for MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA’s latest record then you already know our thoughts, but suffice to say we think they’re the best thing since regional gothic sliced bread. Go hang about outside the door and hope they let you in. Supported by Slothrust FFO: Kevin Devine, Brand New, Into It Over It /_/ SOLD OUT |
